A letter from our founder
As an architect, I founded True Value after watching too many friends, family, and clients make rushed, emotional, and costly decisions - often buying homes based on untested assumptions about their potential.
Buying a home is one of life’s biggest commitments. Even move-in-ready properties can hide risks - from condition issues and awkward layouts to planning constraints or nearby developments that could affect future value or limit long-term suitability as your needs evolve.
In an ideal world, you’d speak to an agent, financial advisor, planner, surveyor, architect - even a builder or cost consultant - before committing to a home you might improve. But most people don’t have the time, contacts, or headspace to coordinate that. And many start their search without a clear strategy, unsure what to prioritise, what’s realistic, or how much work they’re really willing to take on.
The idea for True Value first took shape when I helped a client consider a house that came with significant risk but also clear potential. We brought in a team - planning consultants, surveyors, cost experts, and architects - and assessed everything before they committed. With the facts presented to the vendor, and a clear reality understood before exchange, they went on to buy the property well below asking price, with the confidence and clarity to create the home they wanted.
That experience, and many since, confirmed something I’d long suspected: with the right facts, a thoughtful strategy, and early due diligence, buyers can avoid costly surprises and unlock the potential others miss - whether that’s identifying the right home in the first place, or shaping a vision for what it could become.
